PALP — Parents as Learning Partners

Parents as Learning Partners (PALP) gives parents and caregivers the opportunity to join their child’s classroom and help lead a fun, hands-on learning experience.

PALP is coordinated by the Class Parents for each classroom in partnership with the teacher. Sessions are typically held once a month and last approximately 45 minutes.

What happens during PALP?

Parents and caregivers work with the teacher and Class Parents to plan activities that complement what students are learning while giving families a chance to share their interests, experiences and talents with the class.

PALP activities can take many forms, including read-alouds, art and music projects, science experiments, cultural activities, games, demonstrations and hands-on projects.

Throughout the year, PALP days may also be organized around school-wide themes. Past examples have included:

  • Careers — parents and caregivers share their professions and introduce students to different career paths.
  • STEAM Fair — hands-on activities exploring science, technology, engineering, art and math.
  • Oktoberfest — a fall-themed PALP bringing seasonal activities and classroom fun together.
