2011-2012
What is the Parents’ Association (P.A.)?
P.S. 101Q’s Parents’ Association plays an essential role in our school. We support our children and school by collaborating with our principal and school administration on a daily basis. The P.A. shares in the goal of providing a rich and rewarding elementary school environment for our children.
We run several events which include: a Halloween Party, Father-Daughter and Mother-Son Dances, an International Dinner, a Book Fair, School Pictures, a Green “Bee” Market and much more. We are responsible for school fundraising and also operate an After School Program that runs from 3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. daily. There are two sessions (fall and spring) and information is distributed in mid-Sept for the first registration. P.A. elections are held in the late spring.
The P.A. is
also a place where parents can voice
questions and concerns regarding their
children’s school experience.
How can I become a P.A. member?
As a parent, legally appointed guardian or a primary caregiver of a child who attends our school, you are automatically a member of the P.A. Elections for Officers are held in late spring.
Do I have to pay a membership fee?
No
Can I become a Committee Chair or Event Volunteer?
Yes,
we welcome parents as Event Volunteers and Event Chairpersons.
We are 100% parent-driven so without your help, many in-house
programs and extras would be nonexistent. Any help you can give is
appreciated.
How do I make a donation to the school?
We are now a 501 (c) 3 public charity, so your contributions are completely tax
deductible. Your contributions are also eligible for matching
fund contributions from many places of business. P.S.101Q
benefits greatly from the financial support of parents. The bulk of the
P.A.’s monetary donations come from our annual Fundraising
Campaign. Additional funds are raised from community events and
from our popular After School Program. Items such as printers,
computers, Smartboards, arts programs, dance programs, music and
theater equipment, student magazines, adventure trips, air
conditioners, and much more are funded by parent donations.
If I work, can I participate?
Absolutely, help is always needed and appreciated. If you can volunteer on weekdays, weeknights, or on weekends, we’d love it. We always need help at events for setup and cleanup. If you can attend community meetings (C.E.C., P.E.P., or CB6), we’d also love it. Other options include being a Class Parent, (coordinating parties/events), a Recess Volunteer, or a Learning Leader.
When and where are P.A. meetings held?
They are usually
held on the 1st Wednesday of every month at 7pm
in the Auditorium. A meeting agenda is sent home
with the children a week before the meeting. It
will also be available at
www.pa101.org
What if our
family is new to the school and has never
been involved in a P.A. before?
Remember, we
all began in the same position. We welcome
and encourage all families to participate in
any capacity.
How do I contact
the P.A.? Do I have to wait until the next
P.A. meeting?
You are welcome to visit our
