child’s school. Each parent or
guardian is eligible to vote.
Where To Vote
Results
The
tabulation of results will begin
promptly at 8pm on Election Day. The
results will be announced via a letter
to parents.
Here are
your School Leadership Team candidates
so far:
1)
JODI FREED
Grade (s) your child (ren) are in:
2nd grade
Current
involvement in the school:
I am a new parent to P.S. 101
What you
hope to achieve while in office:
My goal
would be to advance our children
academically, emotionally, and
socially. I would achieve this by
finding ways to raise our children's
self-esteem. Help implement fun and
exciting new ways of learning. Be
willing to voice my opinion and speak
on behalf of our children. Be their
advocate! I understand that schools
are often run as a business but it is
crucial that our focus stay on our
children and our community. What is
most important to me is to see our
children get the proper learning
environment that every child deserves.
2) MARY
O'CONNELL MAURO
Grade(s)
your child(ren) are in:
3rd
grade. Parent of a 2003 graduate.
Current
involvement in the school:
I have
volunteered for numerous events and
activities. I have served as a class
parent for several years. I was a
co-chairperson for two years of the
After School Program.
What
you hope to achieve while in office:
Our
family has been a member of the PS 101
community since 1996. My husband was a
PA Board member, and served as a
member of the SLT. I see the parent
positions on the SLT as a vital means
by which parents may voice their
concerns to the administration and
faculty in a manner which can develop
a consensus. Ultimately, I believe
that everyone has the same goal: the
best education for all of our
children. Parents, faculty, and the
administration may differ how this is
best achieved. My hope, as a member of
the SLT, is to assist in building
bridges among all members of the
community to achieve our goal, while
at the same time being a strong voice
for the parents of our children.
3) RACHELLE "SHELLY" SCHLOSSER
(KERRIGAN)
Grade(s) your child(ren) are in:
3rd
grade, Nursery School
Current
involvement in the school:
Class
Parent, Volunteering, Attending PA
Meetings
What
you hope to achieve while in office:
I believe
our school is a great place to be -
our teachers, the Principal, support
staff, etc., all work extremely hard
to help our children learn in a
creative and nurturing, yet
appropriately structured manner. As
the parent of a third grader & a child
in nursery school, I know I share many
concerns with the majority of school
parents: I believe we need to
constantly address & re-address the
balance between extracurricular events
& homework, in addition to the overall
quality & quantity of homework; the
unfortunate necessity in certain
grades of simply teaching for tests or
using dull worksheets, and how we can
move beyond that; improving
teacher-parent communication;
developing enriching arts, science &
social studies courses, while
effectively teaching reading, writing
& arithmetic; incorporating creative,
innovative and successful teaching
methods; and providing valuable,
caring support services for our
children at risk, as well as a
challenging curriculum for the gifted.
My professional field is Public
Relations, so I understand firsthand
the importance of communication, and
would strive to represent all our
parents and their key issues.
